Separate the river casting from the finish.
- Measure the river cavity, allowing for the wood that displaces resin, and record the depth of each planned layer.
- Select documented systems for the seal coat, deeper casting and final surface finish; one formula may not cover every stage.
- Check each stage against mixed-mass limits, workshop temperature, mold geometry and the finishing schedule.
- Calculate the combined material needed across the stages, then compare whole kits and current offers.

Test the wood, seal coat, pigment and release method together on a small piece. A successful sample does not establish that a larger river casting can use the same batch size or pour depth.
