View 1 gallon kit on Amazon ↗Choose the current Cast + Coat formula deliberately
Current ThickSet Cast + Coat uses equal volumes, unlike the older 3:1 ThickSet formula. That revision makes the exact container label a critical part of choosing instructions. Do not combine an older hardener, a new resin and a ratio found in a tutorial.
Its half-inch allowance for larger layers is the useful starting point for a river or broad casting. The two-inch headline belongs only to a small casting containing no more than ten fluid ounces. Measure the entire cavity before interpreting that exception.
Compared with Fathom, this formula has a shorter working window and a different intended batch scale. A small decorative casting and a substantial river pour may both be two inches deep while requiring entirely different systems.
Plan the measuring and mixing stage
3–5 min; transfer; 2–3 min. 8–10 min total process.
Advisable ≤1 gallon; amount usable within 20 min.
Allow for the whole cure schedule
TDS at 70°F: pot 10 min, work 30 min; recoat ≥4 h. 1/2 in coat: tack-free 6–8 h; sand 24 h; light use 48 h; full 3–5 d. Demold ≥24 h; wet sand/buff ≥5–7 d.
Working time, demolding and full service are separate decisions. Record room conditions and actual mixed quantity in your project notes, and do not use a hard surface alone as proof of complete cure.
Limitations & open questions
- Page working/pot test temperature 77°F vs TDS 70°F.
- Fathom comparison has stray <16 oz ThickSet limit; prefer TDS 10 fl oz.
- Legacy ThickSet 3:1 and 5–7 d material must not be merged into this formula.
A depth ceiling is only one condition. Verify total mixed mass, geometry, temperature and the exact kit revision before planning a pour. A smaller package of the same formula does not automatically change its operating limits.
