Tabletop resin comparison: TotalBoat, Superclear, and MAS

Choose for the coating you will actually apply

TotalBoat TableTop, Superclear Table Top, and MAS Table Top Pro all belong on a shortlist for a poured surface finish. The important buying question is whether your job is a coating or a substantial casting. A product photograph of a river table does not tell you which resin filled the river and which resin formed the final surface.

Start by recording the surface area, intended coating thickness, and material beneath it. All three manufacturers describe thin coating applications, with quarter-inch upper limits subject to their instructions. TotalBoat additionally permits certain small castings at greater depth, but that exception has a six-fluid-ounce limit. It does not expand the coating allowance across an entire table.

Your measuring equipment changes the recipe

Each formula uses equal parts by volume. Their weight instructions are different: TotalBoat specifies 1.2 parts resin to one part hardener; Superclear and MAS specify 100 parts resin to 83 parts hardener. Choose the measuring method before writing your batch worksheet, then use the matching recipe throughout.

A practical worksheet needs separate spaces for total mixed quantity and the two components. If you switch brands halfway through a purchasing comparison, revise the weight recipe as well as the product name. Similar package proportions and identical volumetric ratios do not establish identical gram measurements.

Compare working time at the batch size you intend to mix

The headline times are not directly equivalent. TotalBoat distinguishes pot life from the longer period for applying the material. Superclear says its coating begins thickening within roughly thirty minutes, with warmer or larger batches moving faster. MAS supplies particularly useful context: its manual gives a much shorter rough working estimate for a full kit than its small-sample gel result.

This changes the buying decision for a large surface. Someone planning to measure, mix, carry the bucket, position tools, and only then start spreading needs to shorten that sequence before choosing by advertised minutes. Both TotalBoat and MAS advise mixing no more than a gallon at once; that cap still does not guarantee a comfortable working window.

Schedule the finished table, not just the pour

Superclear's linked technical sheet describes a conditional twenty-four-hour full cure. TotalBoat and MAS describe longer waits before full service. These are manufacturer statements under different conditions, not comparative laboratory results proving one finished surface reaches equivalent properties sooner.

Check the documentary inconsistencies before relying on a deadline. MAS's product page and linked manual differ on sandability, while TotalBoat's page and technical sheet differ on some environmental and recoat guidance. Use instructions matched to the kit and ask the manufacturer to resolve consequential disagreements.

The most defensible purchase is the formula whose complete workflow fits your shop: permitted coating thickness, manageable batch, measuring equipment, substrate preparation, and enough protected curing time. This comparison does not establish a winner for scratch resistance, clarity, or long-term yellowing.
