TotalBoat TableTop: a coating resin with a small-casting exception

TotalBoat TableTop is most straightforward to evaluate as a surface coating for tables, counters, trays, and similar work. The useful specification is the quarter-inch coating ceiling. Its one-inch casting allowance applies only to small pieces using no more than six fluid ounces per pour; it does not turn the product into a one-inch river-table resin.

The mixing method also matters. Equal volumes are correct, but equal weights are not: the published weight ratio is 1.2 parts resin to one part hardener. A scale-based recipe must use that separate ratio.

Plan the finish around full cure rather than the first hard surface. The technical sheet distinguishes light use after 48 hours from full use after five to seven days for a quarter-inch coating at 70°F. Manufacturer documents disagree on some environmental and recoat figures, so confirm the instructions supplied with your kit.

Plan the measuring and mixing stage

Hand mix 3–5 min; transfer and mix 2–3 min; no drill.

Advisable ≤1 gallon; only amount usable within 20 minutes.

Allow for the whole cure schedule

TDS: pot life 20 min; working 40 min at 70°F. 1/4 in at 70°F: tack-free 6 h, sand 24 h, light use 48 h, full 5–7 d. Cast demold ≥24 h.

Working time, demolding and full service are separate decisions. Record room conditions and actual mixed quantity in your project notes, and do not use a hard surface alone as proof of complete cure.

Limitations & open questions

  • Product page working time 40 min at 77°F vs TDS 70°F.
  • Recoat: TDS ≥3 h at 70°F vs page 4–8 h.
  • TDS minimum-use table 3–5 d differs from 48 h light-use prose.

A depth ceiling is only one condition. Verify total mixed mass, geometry, temperature and the exact kit revision before planning a pour. A smaller package of the same formula does not automatically change its operating limits.
