| Formula | Volume ratio A : B | Layer & mass conditions |
|---|---|---|
| MAS Deep Pour (Original) | 3 : 1 | Instructions ≤0.5 in for full 1.3 gallon kit; ≤1 in half-kit; step pour. |
| MAS Deep Pour X | 2 : 1 | Recommended 2–3 in; thinner extends cure. |
Treat Original and X as separate recipes
MAS Original Deep Pour and Deep Pour X share a brand and a casting role, but they are different systems. Original uses three parts resin to one part hardener by volume. X uses two parts resin to one part hardener. The distinction belongs on the purchase list, mixing worksheet, and both containers at the workstation.
The weight recipes differ as well: Original is 100 parts resin to 28 parts hardener; X is 100:43. None of those numbers can be substituted for a volume ratio. Confirm the exact system before measuring even a small trial batch.
Choose the casting depth before choosing the kit
Original's instructions focus on half-inch to one-inch layers, with the amount poured determining the applicable depth. Deep Pour X is designed around two-to-three-inch pours and warns that thinner applications take longer to cure. A deeper-rated product is therefore not automatically the most efficient choice for a shallow cavity.
A maker building a substantial block in stages faces a practical tradeoff: the thinner-layer system entails more pours, while the thicker-layer system requires a project and environment that suit its slower reaction. The right question is which set of instructions covers the complete mold, not which product has the largest number in its name or description.
MAS also gives different temperature guidance for the systems. Original's specified working range ends at 75°F. X recommends 60–80°F, while its product page separately contains a higher do-not-use threshold. Use the recommended range when planning; the separate prohibition does not convert the intervening temperatures into an endorsed target.

MAS's FAQ limits Original Deep Pour mixing batches to one gallon. Its depth instructions also discuss a full mixed kit larger than that, which can look contradictory if all quantities are treated as the same kind of limit. A project quantity and a mixing-container quantity should occupy different lines on the plan.
Deep Pour X's instructions permit a larger quantity per mixing container and prescribe a longer mixing-and-rest sequence. That is specific to X. Transferring its procedure to Original simply because both bottles say 'Deep Pour' would discard the distinction the manufacturer makes between their reactions.
For a large project, resolve how individual batches will be combined and poured before opening the containers. Do not infer permission for an arbitrary total casting from the amount that may be mixed in one bucket.
Plan sealing and finishing as their own stages
MAS discourages using Deep Pour X as a seal coat because its deliberately slow cure would make preparation unnecessarily lengthy. The manufacturer recommends suitable alternatives for sealing porous substrates before casting. Include that additional material and waiting period in the project plan.
Published cure headlines also require context. Original's product page supplies a cure range at a named temperature; X's page distinguishes thinner pours from its intended depth range. Neither is a universal clock for every mold.
Pick the exact system whose confirmed depth, volume, environment, and schedule match the work. This comparison is based on manufacturer documents and does not establish a measured difference in finished clarity, durability, or bubble release.
